Speed Skating: Skater Moore pipped in final sprint to line
Chanel Moore narrowly missed out on victory at the third round of the 2004 outdoor inline speed skating championship.
The South Woodham Ferrers RSC and Team Rollerblade member was among eight skaters taking part in the event at Tatem Park, Enfield.
Moore looked comfortable during her category three 2,000m race and stayed with the main pack.
She sprinted from the bell on the last lap but was just beaten to the line and had to settle for second place.
It was a similar story in the 500m sprint, where Moore just missed out on first and had to settle for an overall second spot.
Competing in category two, Richard Webb and Sam Morrison’s first race was a gruelling 3,000m.
Webb looked strong throughout the race, staying with the main pack, and with Morrison having to pull out, it left him battling alone for the team to secure third place.
The duo’s next race was a fast paced 500m sprint, a favoured event for the Rollerblade team. Webb excelled as he pulled off a first place, giving the young skater second place overall on the podium.
With eight of its members competing South Woodham Ferrers Rollerspeed Skating Club added another eight medals to their collection.
First up was Category Five, with distances of 500m and 1000m. Matt Jablonski was the overall victor of the category five group, winning both his 500m and 1,000m races.
Team-mates Bethany Clayden and Joshua Hatcher battling it out for second and third places, with Clayden eventually taking second overall and Hatcher third.
Robert Whiting came second overall in category four with a brave performance against some tough competition.
His races of 500m, and the preferred distance of 1000m, gave him individual results of third and second respectively.
